Shirley White has resided in the 34th Ward for over forty years and because of her concerns, she is campaigning for Alderman in the 34th ward. She is a proud product of Chicago Public Schools having graduated from John D. Shoop Elementary and Morgan Park High School. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Chicago State University, and for more than 30 years, she  worked professionally as an Accountant, including 10 years as a Controller for a privately own company.

Shirley’s community involvement and activism has been through her recent pledge to support a local action committee on the elimination of Red Light Cameras and Speed Cameras in Chicago. As a volunteer worker for Crime Stoppers, she has participated in the Stop the Violence marches throughout city neighborhoods and held the position as President of Racine-Throop 110th Block Club for several years. She is a member of National Congress of Black Women that provides several programs such as counseling and resources for women who are victims of domestic violence, and health and job fairs.  She worked for Orion’s Mind as a Program Assistant and Tutor Instructor for Chicago Public School.  She has also served as the President of Women Ministry, Sunday School Teacher and Choir Treasurer during her membership at Greater New Testament Baptist Church located in the 34th ward.  In addition, she is a firm supporter of the American Heart Association, the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, and the American Breast Cancer Foundation.

Accountability, accessibility, honesty and transparency will be the foundation of Shirley’s tenure if elected Alderman of the 34th Ward. She promises to return the power of the aldermanic office to its rightful owners -- the 34th ward residents.

In the coming months, Shirley will meet and talk with residents in every precinct of the 34th Ward not only to ask for their trust and support, but to listen to their concerns and suggestions.
